walmart says roughly half of its app users now engage with sparky, its commerce agent, and baskets bought through it run 35% larger. that is an agent with a measurable revenue number at the world’s biggest retailer, not a demo.
the checkout conversation is quietly becoming the shelf.
Context
Verified date: Walmart's 35% figure came from its fourth-quarter earnings call on Feb 19, 2026. Investopedia says CFO John David Rainey said shoppers using Sparky place orders on average 35% larger, and Modern Retail reports CEO John Furner said the same about order value. eWeek (Feb 23) says around half of Walmart app users have interacted with the chatbot at least once.
Digital Commerce 360 (May 22, 2026) quotes Furner saying Sparky weekly active users are up over 100% in the last quarter.
The 35% larger figure is Walmart's average order value for customers who use Sparky versus those who do not, from February 2026, not a new number. The half of app users figure is people who have interacted with it at least once, not people engaging regularly. The sources describe a comparison of users and non-users, not proof that Sparky caused the larger baskets. 'The checkout conversation is quietly becoming the shelf' is the author's opinion.
