The shopping cart is being replaced by an agent
the shopping cart is being replaced by an agent: openai’s chatgpt shopping went live for us users through a checkout protocol built with stripe, walmart joined in april, and ai-driven retail spend hits 20.9 billion dollars this year with chat checkout converting at 3 percent versus a 1.4 percent baseline.
the storefront is now the conversation.
Context
OpenAI launched Instant Checkout in ChatGPT on Sep 29, 2025 with Stripe, which released the Agentic Commerce Protocol it codeveloped with OpenAI. Walmart announced on Oct 14, 2025 a partnership letting customers buy directly in ChatGPT.
Forrester published a piece on agentic payments in B2C commerce in Apr 2026.
The checkout protocol built with Stripe matches the sources. The launch was Sep 29, 2025 and the Walmart announcement Oct 14, 2025, not April. The 20.9 billion dollar spend and the 3 percent versus 1.4 percent conversion were not seen in the sources read, so unsupported here, not refuted. The sources read do not say the launch was limited to US users.

the current is now being asked to draw its own map: china’s langya 2.0 predicts six ocean phenomena including internal waves and mesoscale eddies, a deep net called wenhai resolves eddies globally with air sea flux formulas built in, and scripps infers surface currents from the way temperature patterns deform in satellite images. the ocean now files its own circulation report.
