The passport is being retired mid-stride
the passport is being retired mid-stride: singapore clears travellers at changi with face and iris alone and no token, the eu’s ees went live across 29 schengen states in april, and 54 percent of airports now run live biometric matching. dubai’s corridors verify people while they keep walking.
the queue is becoming a background check.
Context
Singapore's ICA said on May 8, 2026 that automated immigration clearance is now the norm at its checkpoints. CNA's 2024 explainer describes passport-less clearance at Changi Terminal 3 using facial and iris biometrics.
The European Parliament's research service describes the EU Entry/Exit System as replacing passport stamps with recorded entries, exits and refusals, with biometric data. SITA launched a walk-through border system in September 2026, and Dubai's GDRFA marked one year of its Red Carpet seamless travel service.
Passport-less face and iris clearance at Changi matches ICA and CNA. The EES going live across 29 states in April and '54 percent of airports' are not seen in the sources read, so unsupported here, not refuted. 'No token' is the post's shorthand for no passport. Dubai's corridors checking people while they keep walking is close to the GDRFA and SITA descriptions but not their exact wording.

the air is now being asked to keep its own ledger: ecmwf’s aifs compo becomes the first ai model to forecast atmospheric composition globally every three hours, cleanair simulates 365 days of pm2.5 over china in ten seconds, and a unified framework maps six pollutants at one kilometer across the whole country. the air now files its own composition report.

the current is now being asked to draw its own map: china’s langya 2.0 predicts six ocean phenomena including internal waves and mesoscale eddies, a deep net called wenhai resolves eddies globally with air sea flux formulas built in, and scripps infers surface currents from the way temperature patterns deform in satellite images. the ocean now files its own circulation report.
