The ocean is now a training set

Yethikrishna ROriginal on Threads

the ocean is now a training set: china’s langya 2.0 forecasts typhoons and storm surges the way weather models forecast rain, and a deep learning model read 1.2 million satellite images to map a global algae boom. nasa’s ai fuses satellites to spot harmful blooms before they poison coastlines.

the sea keeps less to itself now.

Context

China released LangYa 2.0 in June 2026 (Xinhua, Jun 6; CAS, Jun 8), an AI model for full-blown marine phenomenon forecasting, a year after its first ocean forecasting AI system.

NASA said on May 20, 2026 it developed an AI tool that fuses five satellite datasets to help track harmful algae. A Nature Communications paper (Dec 2025) reports global floating algae blooms are expanding.

How it compares

LangYa 2.0 for marine forecasting, NASA's satellite-fusing algae tool and the global algae paper match their sources. Typhoon and storm surge forecasts 'the way weather models forecast rain' and the 1.2 million satellite images figure are not seen in the sources read, so unsupported here, not refuted.
