The ocean is becoming a forecast

Yethikrishna ROriginal on Threads

the ocean is becoming a forecast: china’s langya 2.0 model now predicts typhoons, storm surges and sea ice, while a deep learning scan of 1.2 million satellite images just found the oceans shifting from algae-poor to algae-rich. the sea was the last place we could not see ahead.

that is ending.

Context

Xinhua and the Chinese Academy of Sciences reported on Jun 6 to 8, 2026 that China released LangYa 2.0, an upgrade of its ocean forecasting AI that predicts complex marine phenomena beyond basic sea variables. Oceanographic Magazine reported on Aug 6 that an AI analysis of 1.2 million satellite images found a large expansion of floating seaweed across the oceans.

LangYa 2.0 came a year after the first ocean forecasting system.

How it compares

LangYa 2.0 and the 1.2 million satellite images match the sources. The typhoon, storm surge and sea ice list and the shift from algae-poor to algae-rich oceans were not seen in the sources read, so unsupported here, not refuted. The excerpt describes floating seaweed expansion.
