The ocean floor is getting its own foundation model

Yethikrishna ROriginal on Threads

the ocean floor is getting its own foundation model: shihang’s ceorion trains underwater robots for 12 operation scenarios from millions of hours of commercial data, and eu robots now pick litter off the seabed without divers. a munich autonomous gripper handled full garbage recovery in marseille and hamburg.

the last unautomated frontier is wet.

Context

Verified event dates: Seahi Robotics (Shihang Intelligence) released CEORION, described as the world's first marine embodied AI foundation model, on Apr 25, 2026. A Chinese report (Jun 18, 2026) says it was trained on million-hour-scale commercial operation data and covers 12 categories of underwater operation.

The Hamburg Port Authority presented the SeaClear 2.0 robot system in live operation on May 22, 2025, a project to remove marine litter from the seabed in the Mediterranean and beyond.

How it compares

CEORION's release, its 12 operation categories and the SeaClear 2.0 seabed litter robot match their sources. The Marseille trial and a 'munich autonomous gripper' are not seen in the sources read, so unsupported here, not refuted. 'Without divers' is the author's summary of SeaClear's autonomous design.
