The inspector is now a camera with a model

the inspector is now a camera with a model: siemens and procter & gamble are scaling ai quality inspection across global plants, cutting scrap 10 to 20 percent and commissioning new sites five to ten times faster, while ai systems hold defect detection above 99 percent against human rates in the 80s.

the factory floor stopped sampling and started checking everything.

Context

Siemens and Procter & Gamble announced in a Siemens press release in September 2026 (reposted by Siemens China on Sep 18) that P&G is expanding an AI-based quality inspection system across its manufacturing operations worldwide. It reports scrap reduced by 10 to 20 percent depending on the product and new deployments commissioned five to ten times faster than traditional bespoke vision systems.

The system combines P&G's deep learning models with Siemens' Industrial Edge platform and industrial PCs powered by Nvidia GPUs, and inspects products in real time at full line speed.

How it compares

The scrap reduction of 10 to 20 percent and the five to ten times faster commissioning match Siemens' release. The claim that AI holds defect detection above 99 percent against human rates in the 80s was not found tied to this deployment; an Intel case study (LG Innotek) reports 99.99 percent, a different company, so the human 80s comparison is not seen in the sources read, so unsupported here, not refuted.
