The inbox is becoming an open-source problem

Yethikrishna ROriginal on Threads

the inbox is becoming an open-source problem: inbox zero is the only self-hostable ai email agent doing triage, labels and drafts on gmail and outlook, while gmail’s gemini era gives everyone help me write and thread summaries for free. a 15-reply thread now collapses to one paragraph.

the reply is being drafted before you finish reading.

Context

Inbox Zero describes itself as an open-source AI email assistant for Gmail and Outlook that organizes the inbox with AI labels and rules, drafts replies in the user's voice, blocks cold emails and bulk-unsubscribes from newsletters.

Google's Gmail Help says Gemini in Gmail can generate an AI Overview at the top of a long thread that synthesizes key points. It also says access varies by account type, and availability is currently limited to the US for personal accounts.

How it compares

Inbox Zero's open-source, Gmail and Outlook, labels and drafts description matches its site. 'Only self-hostable' is not seen in the sources read, so unsupported here, not refuted. Google's help page says Gemini feature access varies by account type, so 'free for everyone' does not match it. The 15-reply thread example is not seen in the sources read, so unsupported here, not refuted.
