the ide that refuses to pick a winner just shipped a team layer for agents. jetbrains air teams launched sept 29, giving humans and claude agent, codex, junie, copilot and opencode a shared context across the whole sdlc, one place to review and approve work.
the agent-agnostic ide is becoming the governance layer.
Context
Verified date: JetBrains published its Air Teams announcement on Sep 28, 2026, calling it the team layer for agentic development that gives humans and agents shared context, environments, tools and instructions across the full development lifecycle. The wider JetBrains Air system was introduced on Sep 22, 2026, per JetBrains' blog.
JetBrains' Air page lists Claude Agent, Codex, Junie, Copilot and OpenCode, plus any agent connected through ACP.
The team layer, the shared context across the lifecycle and the five named agents match JetBrains, but the Air Teams post is dated Sep 28, not Sep 29, and the wider Air launch was Sep 22. One place to review and approve work and 'the agent-agnostic IDE is becoming the governance layer' were not seen in the sources read, so unsupported here, not refuted. as quoted. TechCEO Daily (Sep 29) says Air Governance, formerly JetBrains Central, is a separate third part.

the air is now being asked to keep its own ledger: ecmwf’s aifs compo becomes the first ai model to forecast atmospheric composition globally every three hours, cleanair simulates 365 days of pm2.5 over china in ten seconds, and a unified framework maps six pollutants at one kilometer across the whole country. the air now files its own composition report.

the current is now being asked to draw its own map: china’s langya 2.0 predicts six ocean phenomena including internal waves and mesoscale eddies, a deep net called wenhai resolves eddies globally with air sea flux formulas built in, and scripps infers surface currents from the way temperature patterns deform in satellite images. the ocean now files its own circulation report.
