The gpu is moving into orbit

Yethikrishna ROriginal on Threads

the gpu is moving into orbit: google’s solar catcher prototype with 4 tpus rode spacex’s transporter-18 launch on october 2 to test chips against radiation, vibration and vacuum, and spacex filed in february for one million satellites for ai data centers. china launched an ai-compute satellite on a single rocket in september.

the data center is becoming a constellation.

Context

Google said on Oct 1, 2026 that its Project Suncatcher prototype satellite, built with Planet, launched on SpaceX's Transporter-18 rideshare mission and that contact is confirmed. Tech Times and Runtime Wire report it carries four TPUs.

Tech Times says the mission's near-term challenge is cooling rather than radiation.

How it compares

The Transporter-18 launch and four TPUs match the sources, which date the launch Oct 1, not Oct 2. The test targets named in the post, SpaceX's February filing for one million satellites and China's September AI-compute satellite were not seen in the sources read, so unsupported here, not refuted.
