The furnace is now being tuned to breathe

Yethikrishna ROriginal on Threads

the furnace is now being tuned to breathe: an ai energy system at an o-i glass plant in the uk is set to save 240 tons of carbon a year, predictive wear models extend furnace life, and vision tools catch bubbles mid-line, while trumpf coats glass substrates for the next ai chips.

the window now watches itself.

Context

O-I Glass announced in June 2024 an AI-powered energy management system at its Alloa, UK plant that charges and discharges a battery based on grid conditions, per Glass International and GlobeNewswire. A July 2024 release describes a wider plant transformation aimed at lower CO2.

The post's Trumpf glass coating item is a separate story.

How it compares

The Alloa AI energy system matches the sources, but it is a battery storage system, not a furnace tuning tool. The 240 tons of carbon a year, the furnace wear models, bubble vision tools and Trumpf were not seen in the sources read, so unsupported here, not refuted. The announcements are from 2024.
