The flood line is now being asked to draw its own extent
the flood line is now being asked to draw its own extent: an automated mapper runs a pretrained network on sentinel 1 radar with hand topography inside google earth engine for near real time global inundation, a test time adaptation scheme sharpens coastal flood maps from new unlabeled radar alone, and a cross modal model rebuilds the optical scene while segmenting the water.
the waterline now files its own boundary map.
Context
DeepSAR Flood Mapper is a fully automated flood mapping application on Google Earth Engine. It uses a pretrained multilayer perceptron with Sentinel-1 SAR (VV and VH) and Height Above the Nearest Drainage data to cut false detections on high ground, and is deployed with an offline training and online prediction scheme for near real time global use. The abstract reports better accuracy than Otsu thresholding, SVM and random forest baselines, without numbers in the part retrieved.
FLoRA (arXiv, 2026) is a cross-modal multi-task network that reconstructs optical imagery from Sentinel-1 SAR while segmenting flood water. A lightweight optical teacher guides the SAR features during training. On SEN1FLOODS11, DEEPFLOOD and SEN12MS the authors report it surpasses fusion baselines on PSNR, SSIM and LPIPS.
The test-time adaptation scheme for coastal flood maps could not be matched to a source. The closest hits are a Korean letter on label-free topography-guided test-time refinement for SAR flood change detection (listing without abstract) and a general test-time adaptation paper for satellite segmentation under image degradation. Neither is described as coastal, so that claim is unsupported here, not refuted.
Two of the three are matched. The mapper's HAND input is a topographic filter, not a pretrained deep radar network of the kind the note's wording suggests: the model is a small MLP chosen for speed inside Earth Engine. FLoRA's reported gains are image quality metrics (PSNR, SSIM, LPIPS), which measure how well the optical image is rebuilt and are not flood extent accuracy numbers in the part of the abstract retrieved. The adaptation item is not confirmed, and the general test-time adaptation paper is about image degradation, not floods.
