the field is now being paid for its memory: varaha verifies regenerative farming for 200,000 indian farmers with continuous ai and satellite checks, agoro carbon issued its first soil credits on september 23 under a 12 year microsoft deal for 2.6 million tonnes, and japan’s first soil credits sold at 124 dollars a tonne.

the soil now earns interest.

Context

NITI Aayog's frontier tech portal and The Better India report that Varaha works with more than two lakh (200,000) farmers using AI, satellite imagery and regenerative farming. Agoro Carbon announced on Sep 23 its first soil carbon credits, the first milestone under a 12-year, 2.6 million tonne agreement with Microsoft.

Japan's Natural Capital Credit Consortium sold its first soil credits at 124 dollars a tonne (QCIntel, Green.Earth, Carbon Units, July).

How it compares

The Varaha farmer count, the Agoro first issuance under the 12-year 2.6 million tonne Microsoft deal and the 124 dollar Japanese price match the sources. Agoro's first issuance was to US cropland and pastureland projects. The sources describe 'two lakh farmers across India, Nepal, Bangladesh and Cote d'Ivoire', not only India.

'The soil now earns interest' is the author's opinion.
