The fake face is now a solved file format problem

Yethikrishna ROriginal on Threads

the fake face is now a solved file format problem: tokyo and max planck detectors hit 95 percent by scoring the naturalness of expressions, and the c2pa watermark standard ships in firefox and edge so a browser can check a video’s signature against the dns ledger. interpol wrote the policy guide.

the question stopped being can you fake it and became can you prove it’s real.

Context

Verified source: the Max Planck Institute for Informatics reported on Jul 16, 2026 a new method for detecting manipulated videos, tied to the ExposeAnyone paper from the University of Tokyo and Max Planck, which scores personalized audio-to-expression models. INTERPOL's Project SynthWave has published a global guideline on synthetic media for law enforcement.

Microsoft's C2PA validator is a browser extension for Edge, Chrome and Firefox that checks C2PA assets.

How it compares

The Tokyo and Max Planck detector work and the INTERPOL guideline match their sources. The 95 percent figure, C2PA 'shipping in Firefox and Edge' as built-in browser support, and signatures checked 'against the dns ledger' are not seen in the sources read, so unsupported here, not refuted. The extension read is a developer tool, not native browser support.
