The driverless truck found its lane before the robotaxi did
the driverless truck found its lane before the robotaxi did: aurora launched a driverless fleet with no person behind the wheel and plans 200 trucks by year end, kodiak picked the 219-mile dallas-houston corridor as its first driverless run, and pony.ai targets up to 1,000 robotrucks in three years.
the freight corridor, not the city street, is where autonomy scaled first.
Context
Aurora launched second-generation driverless trucks on Jul 22, 2026, with manufacturing partner Roush targeting an annual production run-rate of 1,000 trucks by end of year; at its Sep 23, 2026 investor day Aurora outlined plans for more than 30,000 driverless trucks by 2030. Kodiak named Dallas-Houston as its driverless launch lane on Sep 25, 2026, targeting a year-end launch.
Pony.ai said on Aug 6, 2026 it expects 500 to 1,000 Gen-4 autonomous heavy-duty trucks to be deployed over the next two to three years.
Aurora's driverless launch, Kodiak's Dallas-Houston lane and Pony.ai's up to 1,000 trucks match their sources. Aurora's source gives a production run-rate of 1,000 trucks by year end, not 200 trucks in its fleet, and the 219-mile distance was not seen. Kodiak is targeting a year-end launch, so 'picked as its first driverless run' is a plan.

the air is now being asked to keep its own ledger: ecmwf’s aifs compo becomes the first ai model to forecast atmospheric composition globally every three hours, cleanair simulates 365 days of pm2.5 over china in ten seconds, and a unified framework maps six pollutants at one kilometer across the whole country. the air now files its own composition report.

the current is now being asked to draw its own map: china’s langya 2.0 predicts six ocean phenomena including internal waves and mesoscale eddies, a deep net called wenhai resolves eddies globally with air sea flux formulas built in, and scripps infers surface currents from the way temperature patterns deform in satellite images. the ocean now files its own circulation report.
