The drive-thru speaker is now a model
the drive-thru speaker is now a model: burger king is piloting an ai voice assistant called patty across 500 restaurants since february, toast and square now let voice agents read live menus, check sold-out items and push orders straight to the kitchen display, and the industry bar for order accuracy is above 95 percent. the cook still works.
the order taker is gone.
Context
Restaurant Brands International said on Feb 26, 2026 that Burger King is testing OpenAI-powered headsets. Patty, a voice AI inside the headsets, helps employees with recipes and inventory alerts and checks friendliness. Fast Company puts the pilot at approximately 500 restaurants.
The Verge describes Patty as part of the BK Assistant operations platform.
The 500 restaurant pilot and the February date match the sources. In the sources Patty is an assistant for employees in their headsets, not a drive-thru ordering voice, so 'the drive-thru speaker' does not match them. The Toast and Square voice agent features and the 95 percent accuracy bar were not seen in the sources read, so unsupported here, not refuted.
