The dating app paradox is measurable
the dating app paradox is measurable: over 80% of daters now use ai to write profiles and pick photos, but most would reject a match who did the same. the new apps skip swiping entirely — known runs a 24-hour voice interview and hands you a single match, while amata sends an ai to plan the date.
everyone optimizes the funnel, nobody wants the result.
Context
Match Group surveyed about 1,000 US singles aged 18 to 39 between Apr 13 and May 8, 2026 on AI and dating (Match Group, Jun 18, 2026). Hily's 2025 report (Aug 6, 2025) says 82 percent of Gen Z and 87 percent of Millennial American daters already use AI for online dating.
NBC Bay Area (May 28, 2026) says Known, a voice-interview dating app by Stanford dropouts, raised nearly $10 million; Amata launched with $6 million (Global Dating Insights, Oct 6, 2025).
Known's voice interview with an AI matchmaker matches NBC Bay Area and its own site. The Hily numbers are 82 and 87 percent among Gen Z and Millennials, not 'over 80 percent of daters', and the 'most would reject a match who did the same' figure was not seen in the sources read, so unsupported here, not refuted. Amata describes setting the time and venue and coaching, which is close to 'plans the date', but the sources read do not say an AI plans it. 'Everyone optimizes the funnel' is the author's.
