the company that started the ai video race just walked away from it. openai switched off sora 2 on sept 24, while the tier it created now runs at kling 3.0 and seedance 2.0 for around $0.09 a second and veo 3.1 at $0.15.

the demo era ended the week the market priced the output.

Context

Verified date: NiharDaily and API Stock report that OpenAI's deprecations page lists the Videos API, sora-2 and sora-2-pro as removed on Sep 24, 2026, with no recommended replacement. ModelsLab says the Sora 2 API was shut down on Sep 24.

NiharDaily puts Google's Veo 3.1 Fast at $0.10 per second at 720p, matching Sora 2's implied $0.10 per second.

How it compares

The Sep 24 shutdown matches the sources, which describe the API and model removal. The per-second prices in the post, about $0.09 for Kling 3.0 and Seedance 2.0 and $0.15 for Veo 3.1, were not seen in the sources read, so unsupported here, not refuted. in the excerpts read, which give $0.10 for Veo 3.1 Fast at 720p and different prices by tier. 'Walked away from the race' and 'the demo era ended' are the author's opinion.
