A Chinese atmospheric sciences paper builds AME-UNet, a multi-layer UNet with a CBAM attention module for lightning nowcasting over North China, using State Grid lightning location data and FY-4A satellite data with brightness temperature channel differences as predictors. A 2026 Geophysical Research Letters paper presents a two-dimensional ResUNet global lightning scheme using one predictor.
MDPI has an earlier study of lightning nowcasting using only lightning data.
AME-UNet with FY-4A and the one-predictor global ResUNet match the sources. The Israeli weather service's 90 percent compute cut on Earth-2 was not seen in the excerpts read, so unsupported here, not refuted.
