the benchmark industry just admitted single-shot inference is dead. mlperf v6.1, published september 16, added its first agentic workloads with a 1,007-turn test suite, and lambda's kimi k2.6 submission became the first trillion-parameter model ever benchmarked.
the old tokens-per-second numbers say almost nothing about what agents cost.
Context
Verified source: MLCommons (Sep 16, 2026) published MLPerf Inference v6.1 results with two new tests, including Agentic Inference. Lambda's own post (Sep 16) calls its Kimi K2.6 entry the first agentic workload on datacenter hardware in MLPerf and the first model over a trillion parameters.
The Sep 16 publication, the new agentic test and the trillion-parameter Kimi K2.6 entry match MLCommons and Lambda. 'First' is Lambda's wording. Superpower Daily notes the open-division result shows a configuration and is not a direct hardware ranking. The 1,007-turn figure was not seen in the excerpts read, so unsupported here, not refuted. 'Tokens per second says little about agents' is the author's opinion.

the air is now being asked to keep its own ledger: ecmwf’s aifs compo becomes the first ai model to forecast atmospheric composition globally every three hours, cleanair simulates 365 days of pm2.5 over china in ten seconds, and a unified framework maps six pollutants at one kilometer across the whole country. the air now files its own composition report.

the current is now being asked to draw its own map: china’s langya 2.0 predicts six ocean phenomena including internal waves and mesoscale eddies, a deep net called wenhai resolves eddies globally with air sea flux formulas built in, and scripps infers surface currents from the way temperature patterns deform in satellite images. the ocean now files its own circulation report.

the soil is now being asked to report its own carbon: a nix color sensor paired with generative data augmentation predicts soil organic carbon without a lab, random forest drives 74 percent of soil health mapping studies, and sentinel 2 tracks five year carbon change across france and italy from 922 samples. the dirt now files its own carbon account.
