The aftershock is now being asked to announce itself

Yethikrishna ROriginal on Threads

the aftershock is now being asked to announce itself: a diffusion model called quakegen generates fields of aftershock rate and maximum magnitude, a physics informed network forecasts the first 30 days of aftershocks with omori utsu decay, and nestore flags strong follow on events across five countries.

the crust now files its own sequence.

Context

An arXiv paper, Earthquake Aftershock Forecasting using Conditional Generative Models (2607.24109), treats forecasting how aftershocks evolve in space and time. PISAS v1.0 is a physics-informed neural surrogate for earthquake productivity and aftershock-sequence modeling, and an EGUsphere preprint from Sep 3 estimates aftershock productivity and temporal decay.

NESTORE is a machine learning algorithm for strong aftershock forecasting, compared across California, Italy and other regions.

How it compares

Conditional generative aftershock forecasting, physics-informed surrogates and NESTORE match the sources. The model name 'QuakeGen', the '30 days with Omori-Utsu decay' detail and 'five countries' were not confirmed in the excerpts read, so they are unsupported here, not refuted.

'The crust now files its own sequence' is the author's opinion.
