personalized recommendation engines now drive an estimated 25-35% of e-commerce revenue, and companies running ai personalization earn about 40% more than those that do not, while 84% of ecommerce businesses call ai their top strategic priority. l’oréal’s skin genius analyzes a customer’s face to build a "segment of one" shopping experience.
the store is no longer the product, the model that ranks the products is the product.
Context
Contentful's personalization statistics page (Jan 22, 2025) says fast-growing companies earn 40 percent more revenue from personalization. Bloomreach attributes that to McKinsey research comparing fast-growing organizations with slower-growing competitors. A SuperMia guide (May 29, 2026) says personalized product recommendations generate up to 31 percent of ecommerce revenue.
L'Oreal Paris describes Skin Genius as an AI skin analysis tool developed by L'Oreal Research on 30 years of clinical data, which gives a personalized skincare routine.
The 40 percent figure is about fast-growing versus slower-growing companies, not about companies that run AI personalization versus those that do not. A fact-check on aitechmodel (May 25, 2026) says the widely repeated 35 percent revenue lift is not accurate and puts the median increase far lower. The 25 to 35 percent of revenue range sits near SuperMia's up to 31 percent. The 84 percent priority figure and the 'segment of one' framing were not seen in the sources read, so unsupported here, not refuted. Skin Genius analyzes skin, which the L'Oreal pages describe, not a customer's face for shopping. 'The model that ranks the products is the product' is the author's opinion.
