humanoids just crossed from demo videos to factory counts. two companies passed 10,000 units in a sept 16 tally, unitree alone over 7,000, while xpeng's iron raised $900m at a $6.3b valuation on the way to end-2026 mass production.
the contest stopped being about walking and became about factories.
Context
Verified source: 36Kr's Sep 16, 2026 piece says two leading humanoid robot makers have crossed the 10,000-unit milestone. XPENG's press release of Aug 25, 2026 says its robotics business raised over US$900 million at a post-money valuation of over US$6.3 billion, and a Sep 7 release says its humanoid production lines are in operation.
HumanoidHub (Sep 16) describes IRON walking off its own assembly line.
The 10,000-unit milestone for two companies, the $900 million raise and the $6.3 billion valuation match the sources. The raise was announced Aug 25, not recently. That Unitree alone has over 7,000 units and that IRON is on the way to end-2026 mass production were not seen in the sources read, so unsupported here, not refuted. in the excerpts read, though the Sep 7 release says production lines are running. 'The contest became about factories' is the author's opinion.
