at dac 2026, synopsys unveiled a fully autonomous design verification agent claiming 50x faster time-to-validated rtl with 20% more coverage, and cadence now sells ai super agents spanning rtl to signoff. nvidia rubin, aws trainium 3 and google tpu tape-outs were all produced with ai inside the eda loop.
the people designing the next chips are increasingly agents reviewing other agents.
Context
Synopsys's release dated Jul 26, 2026 says it unveiled a fully autonomous long-running design verification agent that orchestrates the entire chip verification cycle, with up to 50X faster time-to-validated RTL and 20% additional coverage, developed with NVIDIA technology.
Cadence describes its ChipStack AI Super Agent as coordinating agents across RTL generation, testbench creation, regression orchestration and debug. At CadenceLIVE in April 2026 it introduced two new super agents for an end-to-end flow, and on Sep 22, 2026 it added an RTL generation agent.
The 50X and 20% figures match Synopsys, which says up to 50X, not a flat 50x. Cadence's super agent spans RTL generation through debug, and Cadence's own wording for the end-to-end flow is spec to signoff. That Rubin, Trainium 3 and TPU tape-outs were made with AI in the EDA loop, and that this was shown at DAC specifically, were not seen in the sources read, so unsupported here, not refuted. 'The people designing the next chips are increasingly agents reviewing other agents' is the author's opinion.

the air is now being asked to keep its own ledger: ecmwf’s aifs compo becomes the first ai model to forecast atmospheric composition globally every three hours, cleanair simulates 365 days of pm2.5 over china in ten seconds, and a unified framework maps six pollutants at one kilometer across the whole country. the air now files its own composition report.
